FeNO measurement
How severe is your asthma? Is the therapy working as desired? Do you need a different medication? We answer these questions particularly precisely by means of FeNO measurement. It is one of the individual health services (IGeL).
What’s behind it
FeNO stands for fractionated exhaled nitric oxide. The gas is contained in certain quantities in your exhaled air. If we determine the content, we can
- adapt the medication to your needs and find the right individual dosage
- diagnose asthma more precisely and determine its severity
- check the effectiveness of the treatment
- detect and prevent sudden exacerbations in good time

You will have to pay these costs
The statutory health insurance companies refuse to cover the costs, although the pneumology guidelines recommend the FeNO measurement. You can still have this test done by us. It costs 30 euros as an individual health service (IGeL).
Feel free to contact us about the FeNO measurement. We advise you transparently and individually.
Particularly suitable for risk groups
The specialist guidelines recommend FeNO measurement as the first choice for diagnosing asthma. It is particularly advisable for people who are exposed to an increased risk of exacerbations. These include pregnant women, patients with impaired lung function, certain changes in the laboratory, patients with symptoms despite therapy and patients who have already experienced an exacerbation.
Patients who have to regularly inhale corticosteroids (“asthma spray”) also benefit from FeNO measurements. Pregnant women, for example, should reduce the dose – as far as possible, but no further than necessary. This requires medical sensitivity and precise data.
How the test works
An FeNO measurement only takes a few minutes and doesn’t hurt: you take a deep breath and blow slowly into a special device. Just a few moments later, we have the measurement results. On this basis, the inflammation in your airways can be precisely assessed.
We recommend one measurement per year. Additional measurements can be taken if your medication changes or if symptoms occur.
