The example of asthma
In acute asthma, the airways become so inflamed that we have to prescribe medication containing cortisone These so-called asthma sprays relieve the symptoms and improve the quality of life, but they have one disadvantage: in high doses, they also affect processes in your body that we are not targeting at all (bones, eyes, blood sugar and so on). Cortisone therefore behaves like a lawnmower on an area where you only want to cut a few very specific blades. New drugs work more precisely by targeting specific types of asthma, for example.
